Hitting your target audience

Some of you might be reading this and thinking, what is a ‘target audience’ and some of you might know exactly what I’m talking about.  To ensure we are all on the same page, your target audience is whomever buys your product or services, and what makes them tick.

To ‘hit’ your target audience is not talking about a big State of Origin hit between a 2 front rowers, but rather how to effectively communicate to them, that you have what they want, or give them the perception that they should want, or even need, what you have.

So to hit your target audience, you must first really understand who they are.  Not just some solid guess from your dealings with them, you need to understand them intimately.  For what any business really wants, is a lifelong customer who is loyal to your brand right?
Consider it like a marriage, you want to get to know the person before hand right?
So researching your target audience has been and will always be, your first step.

Second step, is to understand what others have done that works with the demographics of your target audience.

Third step is to test either directly to market, or via secondary

research, such as focus group (qualitative research).
Finally, once you are armed and ready with the knowledge of your target audience, only then will you know how to hit them, where your business expands and grows in a healthy way with customers who value what you do.
